Evaluating images for magazine covers

Below i have taken a good image and a bad image for a magazine cover for bands and single artists, and explained why?

Band Images

I would not use this image for a magazine cover because the band are wearing different coloured clothing making it difficult to apply text that needs to stand out. At the top of the image there isn’t much spacer for a mast head. Also not everyone is looking at the camera, one is looking down which makes it look like her eyes are closed.

I would use this image for a magazine cover because the band are close together making the size easy to adjust and crop without losing important features. There's a decent amount of room at the top of the image for the mast head. The band are also wearing similar coloured clothing making it easier to apply subheadings that will stand out. For the background it will have to be edited to get rid of the text, so the text for the magazine will stand out.

I would use this image for a magazine cover because there is a lot of space around her for subheadings ect. You could get away with the mast head as it may go across her hair or edit it behind her. The lighting will have to be edited as it is too bright on the wall to the left.

I wouldn’t use this image for a magazine cover because there isn’t enough space at the top for a mast head or round the sides for subheadings, its difficult to make the text stand out . The shadows in the image would make it difficult for text too. Although this image could be used with extreme editing.
